Your Argand account
An account that's truly yours
With Argand there's no email to hand over and no password to remember. When you create an account you get one secret recovery phrase — that phrase is your login. Only you hold it, and Argand stores nothing about you.
In plain terms
What it is. Think of your recovery phrase like the only key to your house. There's no front-desk clerk, no email reset, no "forgot password" link — you hold the key, and that's the whole point.
Why it's better. Because Argand never keeps your email, password, or a copy of your key, there's nothing for a hacker to steal and nothing for anyone to hand over. Your identity stays with you, not on our servers.
What you need to do. Save your recovery phrase somewhere safe — a password manager is ideal, or write it down and keep it somewhere private. It's the only way back into your account if you switch devices or clear your browser. Anyone who has it can get into your account, so don't share it.
You'll also see an account ID (it starts with did:key:).
That's just your public name on Argand, like a username — it's safe to
share and it is not your login.
Technical details (for advanced users)
Argand uses WebID through Solid-OIDC as the default account identity. DIDs are accepted as interoperability proofs when another network already owns the user relationship.
ATProto
Bluesky and other ATProto identities connect through ATProto OAuth, then resolve to DID proofs such as did:plc.
Fediverse
Mastodon OAuth and WebFinger provide account discovery and consent for ActivityPub services.
Wallet-held credentials
OpenID4VP can verify portable credentials without adding blockchain, cryptocurrency, or a custom Argand identity registry.
Boundary
- Argand does not create a default hosted identity record.
- Argand does not ask for third-party account passwords.
- Argand does not use blockchain, cryptocurrency, NFTs, or web3 account flows.
- Argand services should receive scoped, revocable proof tokens instead of reusable secrets.
