robots.txt is the primary path

You don't need this form to opt out. ArgandBot honors robots.txt automatically within 24 hours (usually much sooner):

User-agent: ArgandBot
Disallow: /

This form is the backup path — for when you can't edit robots.txt, want already-indexed content removed, or want to talk to a human. Full crawler details on the ArgandBot identity page.

What happens next

  • Opt-outs apply automatically. "Stop crawling" adds your domain to the crawler's suppression list the moment you submit — no human in the loop. It's deliberately easy; an over-eager opt-out only costs us coverage and is reversible on request.
  • Removals are verified lightly, then acted on. We check your robots.txt (or page-level noindex) to confirm you control the site, stop crawling it immediately, and queue the index removal. Unverifiable requests go to a human instead of being auto-applied — so a competitor can't remove your site.
  • Crawl-rate requests: the fastest fix is Crawl-delay: N in your robots.txt, which ArgandBot honors up to 30 seconds. Form submissions are logged and reviewed.
  • "Contact Nic directly" goes verbatim to the person who wrote the crawler — as do questions, anything unclear, and anything that looks like real trouble.
  • Every request gets an ID shown on this page, an audit-log entry, and (if you left an email) a confirmation message. Prefer email? crawler@argand.org works too.
